Sofa Make Over

We had a little Sofa Make Over this week. We gave it a new slip, our Sofa has always been gorgeous, but it was time to preserve it a little more, and since I've wanted a cottage white slipcovered sofa, literally since the late '80's, it was time.
The Green Floral you see is the Vintage Estate Sale Fabric I bought over a year ago, which will be made into new pillow slips.

The view: Sorry for the foggy day photo, taken with my IPAD
Before: Our very old pretty Beige Damask sofa, when I purchased it I was inspired by one of Rachel Ashwell's photos in her first book. I still love it which is why I wanted to give it a slip, and not re upholster.
Have a wonderful weekend one and all, we are celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary today, we'll be breathing in some Ocean Air, and spending some much needed quality time together. tami

Calming Colors

As of late I've been introducing a new color or two to my overly populated by red home.

Red is, and always will be my favorite color, however, I find soft blues to be so calming. Usually reserved for a Guest Room, I recently brought them into, the living room and onto the sofa by adding this pretty Rachel Ashwell Hydrangea Pillow.
Soo uber pretty to come home to. Thank you Rachel! For your Design Genius, and Impeccable Taste :)

Space

Who much space do you need?
Occasionally I get a wild hair and search the new home listings, just to see.
Our home is around 1500 sq feet, plenty of room for a family of 2.
Just the Hubby and I. But we do like to have family come for a visit or close friends, also we like to open our home to others when the occasion calls for it.
Personally, I have lived in a studio apartment when I was single, a one bedroom apartment, and on up.
I remember fondly the studio, it was a fun time in my life, I had a small (tiny) kitchen, livingroom/bedroom, and a bathroom.
My first vintage table and chairs were a round white table, and two icecream parlor style chairs my Mom and I found together at a yard sale. I loved them, and carried them on into my first couple years of married life.
When you're madly in love, it's amazing how little you need. Perhaps that is what makes my friend Debra so happy?
She lives in a tiny home,

I've been inspired by her blog  from the moment I first saw it.
And her life.
Tonight I stumbled upon a home that makes her tiny cottage look like a mansion , which makes me wonder...how much space do we really need?
My guess is it depends upon where you live.
City, Beach, Country. Either way, I think Debra, and anyone who chooses this lifestyle is not onlly brave, but motivating. So thank you, tiny home dwellers, everywhere, for making us all realize that happiness is certainly not based on how much you have.

Cabbages and Roses and More

Sharing my pretty new Cabbages and Roses Pillows I ordered for my sweet little entry Bench.

They introduce new colors into my home. Pillows are a great way to do that. I have lots of reds, but these lovelies boast soft blues and grays, as well as pinkish raspberries.
The Blue Gray pillow's fabric is "Tulips and Roses" and the other is "Paris Rose Raspberry". I actually saved a great deal by ordering these custom pillows from a Wonderful Company I Found On Ebay
I first purchased two other matching cushions I'll be using for our living room chairs.
Also I wanted to share a sweet find we found while picking for our booth. This unique old Flour Bin made by the Kreamer Co.
We've had lots of interest in it. Making a wonderful prop for a Vintage Kitchen, Laundry or Mud Room. It's rather Chippy and Rusty but...it's been around a while hasn't it?
Wishing one and all a Wonderful Weekend

Fantastique!

This is the real deal...a Vintage Fan that actually works. It's always a bonus when things work.
Although, if you have a very old Fan that works, there are a couple things you should know.
Never use them around small children or pets
The blades are quite sharp, and there is no real safty shield. The pretty wire shield does not keep little fingers or noses for that matter from entering while the blades are spinning.

That being said, they make wonderful props for Vintage, Cottage Style Rooms. I would simply leave it "off". These photos are from our new booth. The entire Mall we sell our wares in moved across the street to a prettier, cooler, and more upkept building. So now we have a nice floor, and a large white painted brick wall.

Change can be good. Like from Summer to Fall...sooo much cooler here where we live, it was a long hot Summer, and we're all so glad it's over. Crisp Air, Leaves Turning, Cider Brewing...Fall. Have a good one, one and all. (rhyme intentional;))

What not to sell

People...we implore you...STOP SELLING THESE AT YARD SALES!
 1) No one wants them.
2) They're just icky
3) No one's ever sold or bought one from a yard sale, for the above reasons.
4) No one will blame you for not "recycling this time"
5) No one does the yard sale drive by and says "stop! I see a bedside potty"!

This is a repost from our Facebook Page

A Cottage Bench To Welcome Guests

Greetings! Isn't this the sweetest little Bench? I think so.
It will be even sweeter when my pretty Cabbages and Roses Pillows arrive. We needed a Bench badly.
No, it's true, we really did. You see my Hubby has a little habit of leaving his shoes right at the entrance of the door, so that when I come home from a long day of work myself, I often do that little trip that Rob Petrie did ;) Remember Him? Oh I had such a crush on Dick Van Dyke. We watched the re-runs, just in case you're guessing my age ;)
So anyway...now as you can see there is a bit of room for a pair of shoes just underneath this pretty Cottage Bench, and my Dear Husband can sit instead of stand and fumble around putting his shoes on before he leaves. You're welcome Hubby.
Have a wonderful weekend. It's finally cool and Fallish here, which is the best time of year.

Improve Your Outlook

I have a habit of prettying up my window sills.
No matter where I have lived, I like to peer out my window and see something pretty there. Vintage candle holders lit at dusk, auromatic potted herbs, or a handful of flowers in dainty creamers or sugar bowls.
Over the weekend I found the most darling large cup at Homegoods and knew I wanted it for my window sill in the kitchen.
At just under $5 it was a bargain, not only because of it's vintage cottage look, but because it's design is graced by the most beautiful bird, and gold trim.
Have I told you I am a bird lover?
 I am.

I added my little Fenton Milk Glass Mini Kettle , it has a traditional Fenton Daisy and Button pattern, and filled it with some rosy colored blooms.

No, this is not my window sill, the light was coming in rather strong and darkened everything so I moved them to a spot to take the photo.
But these little pretties have certainly improved my outloook;)
Thanks to Linda over at Coastal Charm for letting me crash her party

Romantic Prairie Style Table Runner

Today I'm sharing a pretty Romantic Prairie Style Table Runner I made for my shop.

I've not really staged the photos, they're just for our Face Book Page, this was a simple project, but is the perfect touch for a tablescape, and just in time for Fall.
I'll be making several styles to sell.

Lovin' Spoonful

Here's a quick pic of a pretty spoon rack we finished for our booth. To add some charm we painted some every day odd spoons and forks in flat white (not for food consumption). These old spoon racks are plentiful at yard sales and thrift stores, but usually are fairly dull and boring. This one received a custom chalk finish in "Mourning Dove" and then distressed gently. Enjoy your week, tami

Booth Pics

A couple of photos of my booth downtown. Thanks so much to My Brother J for sending the nice vinyl letters for my sign.

Please excuse the rather smudgy window, the maintenance crew had not paid their visit when I snapped these quick pics.

Estate Treasure

It's Friday, and I'm spending most of my afternoon hoovering, dust busting, and spritzing my home. But this morning I took a little break to share this pretty biscuit jar I found at an Estate sale.

I have quite a collection of Antique Brown Transferware, but this was such a unique piece I had to have it.

For now it's found a home on my little side board, I'll have to fill it with something sweet. Have a wonderful weekend, and stay dry, it's Storm Season. xoxo tami

Floral Teal Pitcher

Greetings! I had a few emails asking me about the pretty Pitcher that I used to accessorize my Blue Winged Teal Table I shared
here
So I thought I might answer them...
Janet asked "Is it an antique?" From my internet search I believe it's early 1900's
Patty asked "Where did you get that gorgeous Pitcher!?"
We found it in a thrift shop in Bakersfield California, there is an Antique Row on 19th street  which merits a visit if you're ever in the Central Cali area.
Jennifer asked "Can you tell me about the pretty pitcher in your photos?"
This is an Anchor Pottery Piece, it's marked "white cement" and made by Anchor in Trenton Ohio, so it's American. The color is a beautiful deep Aqua and there are added flowers at the lip of the pitcher, which certainly adds to it's charm and beauty. I love it, it's value can get upwards of $300, however it was a steal at just $3.
We were picking for our shop but decided to keep this for ourselves. I'm in the process of painting my open shelving in my hall which is our linen closet, and this will work well with our aqua colored Ball Jars.
Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for your interest!

French Bottle Rack Love

Before I go any further, Let me say...these photos are lacking!
However, for those of you who desire a pretty French Wine Bottle Drying Rack, and do not want to pay your Child's College Tuition for it...try Amazon
That's where I got this pretty little thing!
At $44 dollars it was a steal! Of course it's a reproduction but honestly who cares? ;)

It's just the right size, not too large, and not too small.
Perfect for holding coffee mugs,
but there's so much you can do with them.
These pretty mugs are thrifted finds, I love all things English so they fit perfectly into my Cottage.

We've had lots of Thunder Storms here lately, so today was the first Sunny day in a while. Mind you I can tolerate Rain, but Lightening and Thunder that shakes the entire building is a bit more than I can handle. I hope if you're one of the many folks who've been effected by those awful Tornados that you and yours are safe and sound, and warm and dry.
 Hugs, tami

Shop Update

What's new in our Shop? Here's a couple photos to let you know what we've been working on.
Our Booth Downtown is doing quite well. I think all businesses get off to a slow start, but the word is out and this month our inventory has literally sold out!
So we've been fairly busy with adding new items as often as we can.
Here are a couple tables , the Robin's Egg Table is already sold, and the Canary Yellow is just listed.

 Isn't it darling?
We've added our artistic touches with 3 Luscious layers of our Custom Chalk Paint, and Chipped away at the finish, for this one of a kind look.

In case you're admiring the pretty floral pillow (you know how I love my florals) it's a Vintage Estate piece which was a bargain, I love the colors!

Have a wonderful weekend, one and all!

Petits fours

It's no secret the world has gone Crazy for Cupcakes. There are cupcake bakeries on every corner, with clever business names.
"BabyCakes" "The Frosted Muffin" "Sprinkles"
So tempting!
It's ok to eat the entire cake ;)

Still...I adore a Petit Four every now and then. There is something so elegant, and girly about a pretty little petite  cake made especially for you.
English Butter Pats delicately matching a lovely French Plate

 Individually. Each one hand decorated.

That's what we're having for desert tonight, while we watch Dancing with the Stars.
New Life for a Glass Butter Dome a lovely "Cake Cloche"

My Husband sort of pretends to be mildly interested in the show, but between you and me, I think he's been a fan since Kirsty Alley.

It doesn't take much to make me happy.
Cake, Hubby, and Gladys Knight...now that's a great evening.
