For The Birds...

It's been an exhausting week, I've seen what felt like a million clients, and nursed an injured foot, sans heels. But it's Friday Evening, and my foot is elevated as I sip a glass of wine, and just wanted to log in to say, have a Wonderful Weekend to all of you Shabby Vintage English Cottage Style Lovers out there. The photo is a quickie of a bowl I purchased on clearance a summer or so ago, it's supposed to be there for the birds, but ended up gathering pines from our tree. Not to worry the birds have another bath and we feed them regularly. We're bird lovers, and watchers and have pretty blue jays that have made their home in our trees, and the most lovely nun finches that come around now and then. As well as a couple of homing pigeons (not sure who they belong to) that have come by to visit from time to time. And best of all a few mallard ducks that fly in to roam around our pool area without notice of their arrival ;) Last minute guests I call them. But it's ok, I love and adore birds. Stop back by this week, yep, on Wednesday to enter our fun giveaway. Hugs to all, tami

Enhancement Enchantment

Just a quick little post to show you what I ended up hanging over my new Wine Cabinet. It's a cup rack I've had for ages, it actually hung in our hallway with the little wreath and a pretty burlap bag/sack. But this past summer I added a new rack to the end of our hall, a trellis rack, so I didn't want two racks, and when we got the cabinet I decided to paint and distress the cup rack and hang it over the cabinet. Sorry for the pics they really could have been clearer. Linking to the following lovely ladie's blogs, be sure to stop over and check them out

White Wine Cabinet

Before without a leg to stand on

Showing off a bit

Mercury Glass Stands Proudly
For White Wednesday I wanted to share with you our finally finished Wine Cabinet! Hopefully I can get the photos in order to share the before and after. This is something my husband found in our local thrift store, but it didn't have a leg to stand on. So we took it home, and ran out to one of those stores that carry all sorts of new hardware and cabinets and fixtures that were donated and found four legs. The total cost for this project was a mere $43.00. We added atop our pretty Mercury Glass candlesticks some old and some new (from our adventure to HomeGoods) All in all we really like it's "apothecary" look. We'll be adding some gentle distressing later to bring out those knobs and details. Linking up to Kathleen's incredible blogYou can find here here at Faded Charm

Glimpse Parte Due

Here is another peek at our Guest Room. A Vintage dresser greets guests when they arrive, topped with a crystal candle collection. The pretty mirror was found at Marshall's. The little slip covered chair was a castaway from our old office at work, my boss asked me why on earth I wanted it.After removing the little arms, I tried on one of my slip covers and it fit perfectly. I found the slip covers at a discount store, ( I bought 6) they were $4.95 each, a steal in my book. I have used a couple when I find something they fit, and saved the rest. I save things, which I'll post about later. (save not hoard haha). The collection hung over the chair are garden border trims. This room has been the same since we moved into our home. We are working on a new piece of furniture for it, when it's ready I'll show you the bed. The flowers are silk, which I prefer fresh, however this room is not used very often so the silk are a nice stand in.
Just to add, Fifi's new book will be available in March. I have pre ordered an extra one as a giveaway, so stay tuned for that on top of the other giveaway I'll be having very soon! If you're interested in purchasing the book, simply click the photo at the top right of my blog, and it will take you to the link to pre order. Fifi is the editor of Romantic Homes magazine and just the sweetest lady. Her style has influenced people all over the world, and her book promises to be nothing short of Fabulous.

Rustic Charm

Just a few photos of my ever changing vignettes in my dining room. I use the top of my little cabinet that holds china to display fresh flowers or store my extra cake stands. So this morning I displayed a little vintage  zincish bird cage. Another thrifty find for $4.99 at a local discount store. The Rooster was a gift from my husband when we bought our home (as it was our first)  6 or 7 years ago. I do use him as a center piece on my dining table from time to time, or simply sit him on the floor. To add color I snipped some berries from a bush just outside our front door, and set some poms inside my cake dome for a bit more red. She Sells Sea Shells ...

Not really, but she buys them ;) My Husband just so happens to have grown up five minutes from the Ocean. So I thought to add a touch of shells into our home decor was fitting to remind him of home. A few months ago we found a pretty star fish garland (still new in the packing) from the thrift store, I simply set it into my old enamel pan which sits beneath my one dollar table. Then he found a pretty bunch of shells to add to what we already had, so I filled up a vintage bowl and set them on top. I can hear the ocean now, calling us home. Our project will be finished soon, sorry for the delay, hope it will be worth it. For those of you sweet ladies and gents who take the time to peep my pics and comment on my posts and simply browse my page and join, this is  for you...

Muahhhhhhhhhh! xoxo tami

Chair Affair

I do have a love affair with Chairs, as do many of you I see. So, I thought I would share with you my favorite chair. I found it about 7 or 8 years ago in a thrift shop for about $28.00 and fell in love with the pretty shape. It was also the perfect size for me. At the time it was a sagey green, with some well placed spills and stains. I paid no never mind as I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. I've been a huge fan of Waverly Fabrics since the early 80's so I went straight to the fabric store to purchase the fabric I'd looked at for ages in the shop. There wasn't quite enough, so the shopkeeper called over to Santa Barbara and they had enough to send. I took it to my favorite upholsterer downtown and the result is what you see. He also finished a $5.00 footstool to match. I shop a lot in Ventura County and Santa Barbara and believe me the prices can really get up there. Now it's a one of a kind custom made for my tush. The pretty willow lantern you see in the other photo is a discount store find, for $8.00, they had two and I snatched them up a couple summers ago. I really love them.
